I came across a post the other day that raises an issue that has been floating around for a while.

An important point is raised by Israel in that it takes time to learn how to teach and faciliate learning in an online environment. And we need to get used to that idea and work with it.

However, the important question for me is: what happens to the students who take you subject/course/unit in the first or second or even third delivery of it? Are they getting a sub-standard version while one experiments with the content or activities or pedagogy of it? Is anything offered to offset this (seemingly widespread) issue? Is there data that points to this increase in quality over successive deliveries?

If you are a student who is in the first deliveries of a new course, then you may get a very different course to those completing it 5 years later.

What might be done to support both staff and students in these early editions?
