A Typology for Curriculum

I have been thinking about curriculum of late and I think we need to talk about three types of curriculm, each of which has a different aim of change in the learner:

  1. Change in the knowledge or skill of the learner
  2. Change in the thinking patterns or thought structures of the learner
  3. Change in the way the learner is in the world

I don’t think they are exclusive categories, there seems to be overlap or blurring between them. They are not necessarily hierarchical with the third being the ‘ultimate’ type. But I think there is a sense in which they might build upon a ‘lower’ one.
